Today is my birthday and also my first day with dvx100ae ;D

I got one question:
when shooting outdoors (it's midday, 11-12) zebra appears almost on the entire image on my LCD - too much light so I pressed ND and the image looks ok now.

My question is: does shooting with ND filter (build in) reduces the quality of the image?

No, a ND doesn't reduce your image. A ND filter is used to cut down your light in order to change you depth of field and other issues. You of course can also alter the amount of light hitting your CCD's by changing the Fstop and shutter speed. Learn to trust you Zebra stripes. 100 IRE equates roughly to the 100 setting on your 100 camera and 105 on your 100A. It's ok to have some lines in the highest section of your picture if the surface is white or backlite.

Happy birthday...and congrats for ur new BABE.

In fact it is the overexposure that ruins ur cpature, not the underexposure....by using ND filter. For better results, tend to follow the recommendation of ur camera for using a particular ND filter....1/8 or 1/64.

As regards the underexposure there are several ways to overcome it...in camera or in post.
