Decline of the media industry is bad for all of us
Statistically there really is no decline of the media industry, it's just that it has splintered in ways that have meant droves of people leaving the traditional media outlets of broadcast/cable and theaters.
A good portion went to YouTube and self generated "amatuer" media while the rest of the world went to streamers. There is actually growth in media produciton and consumption, it's just that
most of it won't and will never employ us, few YouTubers have crew and staff, although some do. Most crew are working for or have worked for the streamers, I've worked for Netflix and Hulu, not
Amazon Studios yet. Haven't done anything for the traditional studios other than Sony for Peter Rabbit 2, which all got postponed due to the virus.
Those of us who do this for a living can literally look down and see the ground shifting beneath our feet. The Pandemic is going to turn out to be a once in a century or more societal change factor, the economy, how people consume and use media
to do their jobs, retail, theatrical, entertainment, it's all up in the air like it's never been in any of our lifetimes. A lot of us are going to have to foresake media as a living I predict, while other of us will change and adapt to what is happening, but it
is definitely becoming orders more difficult to try to make a living in the media and production business. It's still a fast moving target as to where the growth is going to pop up and come from. The global economy melting down isn't helping things.
