netbook (eeePC et al) for AVCHD playback?

hi folks,
I'm going on a ten-day shoot with my Gh1, and I was wondering if one of these 10" LCD netbooks can serve as a storage/playback machine for AVHD files.

Some of them have a built-in card reader and 250GB drive, so I'm sure i can store the files. The question is whether it can play them - not for editing , but at least so i can view the footage at the end of the day.

Is anyone doing this right now? If so, what machine are you using?

Storage: yes, playback: hardly. I'm not 100% sure as there is this new nvidia ion technology which might allow hardware-accelerated playback of H.264 encoded content. And also remember that most netbooks have a poor screen resolution.

Hi Randy

Download Splash Lite its a great little video player and i dont think you will have a problem viewing your individual files directly from your SD card or saved to your hard drive.

The faster the processor in the laptop and the bigger the hard drive the better.
Im sure others will pipe in here and give you their personal experiences.

Im using a little Asus 901 and it struggles a bit.. reading directly from the card... footage is a bit jerky but i think its because there is only something like 12Gig of memory on it.
Personally I think with more memory on your Hard Drive it will play fine using Splash Lite.

Look either at core 2 duo notebooks.
Or Atom netbooks with latest NVidia chipsets (they have hardware acceleration and can play 1080p perfectly).
I suggest to find small Core2Duo note with hardware accelerated chipset.
