Netbook a viable option for dumping footage?

I was thinking about getting a netbook, and I realized that I could use it for dumping footage from my hmc150 sd cards when i'm traveling, to this 120gb portable drive that I have. Are there any concerns that I should have? Would this work fine? I haven't researched netbooks much so i'm not sure if there's anything to be weary of... Thanks

I just field tested a Lenovo S10 netbook running Mac OS 10.5.8 for offloading footage. I'm shooting with an EX1, and all footage offloaded without a problem. I worked with SD cards in the SD slot, SD cards in an SDHC card reader, SD cards in an ExpressCard reader, and USB copying via cable-connected camera.

If you're talking strictly about offloading, I don't think you'll have a problem. Reviewing AVCHD (or any flavor of HD, really) will likely bog down just about any netbook running on an Atom processor.

I used an old Averatec and an EEE PC for doing just that this past summer -it worked great.

There are quite a few sites out there with information about loading Mac OS X on netbooks. The key thing to keep in mind is that not all netbooks have hardware that seems readily compatible with OS X. The Lenovo is solid, the Dell Mini 9 is great and I've heard good things about the MSI Wind. If you're offloading SDHC material and want a small laptop with great battery life, netbooks are a pretty damn good choice.

Offloading yeah, you'd be fine. You're talking about copying files. Find one with built in SDHC for sure...faster than card reader.

Speaking of Apple rumors are picking up that they will be releasing a netbook in the next few months. I think using a netbook to offload footage is great idea especially if you can get one with decent memory.

I'm waiting till my iPod touch can do it lol. that would be so nice.
Man I was just thinking the same thing... An iphone with a standard usb connection and a SD card slot would be the HMCer's dream LOL. I can't stand the darn battery life on my iphone though... Thats another story though haha...
