Hi,

I have a letus extreme adapter. I am planning to buy these lenses:

http://www.adorama.com/NK8518AFD.html?searchinfo=nikon 85 mm lens - $364.95
http://www.adorama.com/NK5014AFD.html?searchinfo=nikon 50mm 1.4D&item_no=1 - $269

Can anyone tell me are they good enough ...my buget is just $1000 and I need 3 lenses: 28mm, 50mm and 85mm.....

Are there AF lenses can be used on Letus?
One of my friend says that these AF lenses have more plastic that the manual ones so I should go for manual ones...Can somebody suggest what are the manual lenses that are available in this range....

Also can you please share the lens information that you are using and have been successful ...

please respond as I have only today to decide and buy. I need to start the project by this weekend..

MF should be fine and should help you with your budget. Here's a $1000 worth of lenses from KEH. The 85/1.4 will be significantly better than the 1.8

50/1.4 $199 http://www.keh.com/OnLineStore/Prod...ID=&BC=NK&BCC=1&CC=6&CCC=2&BCL=&GBC=&GCC=&KW=

85/1.4 $599

28/2.8 $205

BTW, if you want some info on these lenses go to http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html

sinapps,
thanks a bunch for this ..i really appreciate that you took time to search and get this for me..

so u mean to say that I should go for MF lenses right? AF lenses are not usuable...
Also how good is Keh.com? I have never bought a lens before...so u can understand my concern...

What nikon lenses people generally use: AF or MF. Are they AI or AI-s?
some guidance will be really helpful.....

From the search I could figure out that people use both AF and MF lenses..
I am not sure which ones are good..
can somebody tell me which work better with letus?

The 85/1.4 will be significantly better than the 1.8

I don't know about significantly better. I've used them both and can hardly tell a difference.

I'd rather have a fast WIDE lens than a fast LONG lens. It's those wide shots where you're struggling for light. Close ups you can always walk things in.

AF lenses have a shorter focus throw. I would go for all manual. Keh is a good place to buy used lenses.

Thanks matty_g and sinapps.
So if Keh.com says EX or EX+ condition that means it should be good right?
Also should I go for used ones or new ones..i know i have a budget constraints but I have often seen that there is not much difference between new and used ones..

So you say i should go for AI ones ..
hmm..good advice..now i will search for some faser wides and then buy them..

the nikon 35mm 1.4 is my recommendation.
the 28mm 1.4 is way expensive and autofocus
the 24mm f2 has a decent amount of distortion and i don't use it that often.

i have to buy just three lenses that too around $1000.
I can buy either 35mm or 28mm...as i also need to buy 50mm and 85mm..
so do you thinkn i should go for a 35mm instead of 28...
probably you have both right?

I don't know about significantly better. I've used them both and can hardly tell a difference.

I agree with Matty, I don't see a great deal of difference and I own the 1.4. Also agree that a fast wide is sometimes more important since its easier to light for CU.

The 35mm f1.4 is good but expensive but an f2 is reasonable. The f2 28mm and 24 are fine. I like the 24 but it is very wide.

You can get a 50mm f1.4 probably for under $100 and the 1.8 is also very good.

Going for an f1.8 - f2 system rather than an f1.4 will save you money. Consider their "bargain" quality lenses and ask them to look at the lens. The salesmen are usually pretty good at those places and many of those lenses are only bargain because of exterior cosmetic blemishes.

Lenny,

this is what I get from their site about bargain quality:

""Bargain" 70-79% of original condition. Shows more than average wear. May have dents, dings and a goodly amount of brassing and finish loss. Glass may have marks that should not affect picture quality."

Since I am a novice with these lenses so not sure what exactly these mean and should I go for them or not..

Also when you say ask them to look at the lenses, what do you mean exactly..how can i ask them to look at them..i assume that you are telling me to place an order thru phone right?

Matty and Lenny,

Since this is the first time I am buying something from them(also first time buying lens) please explain when you say most of them are bargains..also
how should i buy from them..do i need to add items to cart and then call them and place the order...i mean i know its kinda stupid to ask all these but i want to leverage your expertise and guidance in making this deal...

KEH is extremely conservative with their ratings. Everything I bought with EX, EX+, or LN- ratings looked like it was never used. Their sales staff is not bad. It would not hurt to call them if you're concerned about the condition of the lenses.

As for 1.8 vs 1.4, my experience is with those lenses in AF versions on a DSLR. The 1.8 had to be stopped down to at least 2.8 to get decent sharpness. 1.4, on other hand, is sharper at 1.4 than the 1.8 is at 2.8. YMMV.

Hi Guys,

As advised by you finally I have decided to go for these.
I still confused abuot 28mm f/2.8 or f/2. Also about 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.8 as there is a good diff in price.
