Is there a way to bypass the P2 Store and import my footage or files directly from the Camera and P2 to Final Cut Pro or to a drive. I've got the cards and no Store. Thanks,
-Austin
Sure. If you install the P2 drivers, you can connect the camera using a Firewire cable and see the contents of the P2 card in the camera from the Finder.
You can import from there, but that seems to cause problems, and Apple recommends that you first copy the P2 card contents to your computer's hard drive, and import from there.
The P2 Store is purely an extra. You don't have to "by-pass" it at all, its not a mandatory piece of the P2 workflow by anymeans. Its just one type of larger, in the field, options that Panasonic themselves have provided consumers.
Otherwise, all you need to do is what others have mentioned.
When in Camera mode go into the menu. Go to menu option 9. Scroll down PC Mode and change to say 1394 Device, if it does not already do so.
Connect the camera via firewire to your Mac. Hold down the MC-VCR / PC-DUB button for several seconds and you'll get a blue screen saying 1394 Disconnect. Then it should cycle to 1394 Connect. The Card(s) will then appear as drives on your desktop. At this point you can use FCP's "Import | Panasonic P2" option to directly load the footage.
However, as mentioned earlier, it is recommended you copy the footage locally to your system (INT drive or EXT drive) and then load into FCP from there. Also, it is recommended that you use FCP 5.1.1 if you are not already.
