Need To Solve This Strange Noise on my EW100ENGC.

I recently purchased a Sennheiser EW100ENGC. I miced my subject and told her to walk away from the camera. I noticed through the headphones that there was a popping noise and noise as if the lav mic was rubbing against her shirt. I checked mic and found out that it wasn't rubbing on any clothing. Any ideas on how I can get rid of popping / rubbing noise?

Also how do you know if you have correctly adjusted the Sensitvity and Sqelch? The instruction manual doesn't tell you if you have correctly adjusted the Sensitvity and Sqelch.

Clothing rustling is the evil bane of all lavaliere mics. It is a horrifying nightmare that crops up and bites you in the hind end when you can least afford to have it do so. Yet another reason why a boom is preferable in nearly all circumstances.

But, enough ranting: about the noise. Noise can come from three sources: either something rubbing against the mic itself, or the mic hearing clothing rustle against clothing, or sometimes you'll pick up noise from the mic cable rustling against clothing.

The solutions are all pretty much the same: wedges of gaffer's tape to keep things from moving around. You should be using a vampire clip or something similar to keep the mic pinned in place, but if you've put the mic between a shirt and coat, for example, it's going to rustle. In those circumstances you need to make some folded "footballs" of gaffer's tape and apply them to the mic and the clothes, "gluing" everything in place. If clothing is rustling against clothing, and the mic is picking that up, again you try to tape the offending garments together to minimize movement, or try to reposition them to avoid them interfering with each other.

Mic'ing to bare skin might be preferable, but some people may be allergic to the tape. Females with adequate cleavage can have the mic applied to the cross of the bra, giving it suspension in a completely interference-free environment. And black mic's can sometimes be used on the outside of clothing without too much interference.

Those are just general guidelines, not necessarily applicable to your particular circumstance.
