Need To Rent P2 Cards / Record for 18 hours

Hello all,

I'm looking for a rental house that has a good supply of Panasonic P2 Cards for rent. I either need 12x 64GB cards or more 32GB cards.

We do use VER but their rate is $105/day for the 64GB card. That's A series, but E series should be cheaper.

I need to shoot about 6 hours continuous on 3 cameras. I do have some P2 cards, so the mentioned count will do it.

We have and used Focus FS-100s in the past but EVERY time I rent a bunch, I have problems. I've had them lock up, bad disks, sometimes they're just dead. Camera guys also tend to knock out Firewire cables, and often don't realize it isn't recording even when setup for tapeless control.

If anyone knows of other means of recording this much cheaper than FS-100s or P2 cards, let me know.

Hi muzicman,
When do you need this equipment? My company Richter Video Equipment Rents P2 for much cheaper than that. Unfortunately we dotn stock (12) 64gb. We do have several 32gb and could certainly supplement what you get from another supplier. (we will be cheaper than anyware else) We also rent laptops with a p2 card reader. This allows you to off load the data on one card while recording on another. In this scenario you only need 6 cards for 3 cams and can record continuously. This would save you over 6 cards. Even if you need to hire a p2 operator $100 bucks to keep the off load going you would come out way ahead. We also rent just the USB reader if you already have a laptop.
Thanks,
Cody

Thanks for the input.

The shoot date is April 16th in Philadelphia, PA... and I see you're there as well! I certainly may be able to offload during shoot, but it is a live event, so running cards around is a challenge. the only bet I have is possibly popping an hour of footage during intermission, probably an hour into the show. The reason there is 6 hours is there are two shows, with not much time in between.

I do have laptops with card readers. USB readers are just so slow. It just really saddens me that he Panasonic HPG20 and other P2 decks can't record P2 directly to a USB hard drive. They can copy to them, read them, but not live record to them. They're basically forcing you to buy the damn cards.

Let me know what you can do for us. If you prefer, my e-mail is nmarques @ bel . com (remove spaces).

Hello again,

What format are you shooting in? Are you using 170's or 200's? In my last shoot each cam only had (2) 16gb cards and each person had a laptop under their tripod to continuously offload. I have to check my rental list but I think I will have a few cards available then. I generally charge $1/GB/day, or $2/gb/week. (16gb is $16/day, 32gb is $32/day). They will arrive at your door a day before the shoot and need to be returned with the prepaid label the day after. (Our warehouse is actually an hour north of philly so we ship almost everything).

We are actually using HPX-500 cameras. They have 4x P2 card slots. That pricing is an excellent way to do it. $1/GB/day/shot minute... we shoot in 720p60p. Let me know what you can come up with.

I posted here since this board has a bit more activity than the 500-forum.

Wow, the 500 is a really nice cam. I'm hoping to buy one later this year but they are pricey. I'm sorry, but most of my equipment is rented that week-end, to bad I didn't know sooner. I will however have (1) 64 GB p2 card left. I know that's hardly a dent in what you need, but if you'd like to rent it, its 64 bucks including free shipping to and from. I do also offer a firestore for $50 a day. I know you don't like them as much but it would be a much cheaper alternative. If using the fire store I normally keep p2 in the cam on loop mode in case it has any kind of error. If it stops recording I have at least have 16 min to get it going again. A little annoying in post if it stops, but at least you don't loose the shot.

Thanks,
Cody

Alrighty, thanks! I'll keep you in mind for future ventures. We're also a rental and production house. Pro-audio and video. It'd be great to get some synergy going! We do swap rentals from time to time.

edited my above post, don't know if you saw the update. Normaly I have a lot more equipment on hand, but I have almost all my 200's and 170's going out with cards that week-end.
Thanks
