need to make 500 dvd's of an indy feature film - suggestions for duplication house?

1000 copies is the sweet spot with any duplicator, costs only slightly more per unit than 500. Discmakers is fine, have used them before, but I've found this company's (WTS media) bottom line price is less and have used them for the past two features I've done:

Their duplication facility is in Chattanooga but I recommend calling the Nashville office and talking to Bobby.

I've ben doing DVD and BluRay authoring and replication since when you had to explain what a DVD was.
500 is not a good quantity because it's not enough for most facilities to run as replicated discs (the nice silver backed ones like you get at the store) and it's too many to be cost effective as duplicated discs (the purplish backed DVD-Rs that are copied in a stack of recorders). Replication is better since it's cheaper (in volume) and more durable, but they have to make a glass master for the stamper which costs more. Once you're making many thousands, that stamper cost is spread out to make it really cheap per DVD. At 500, that cost will be more per disc. Really just wanted to explain why a lot of places will charge you almost as much in total for 500 as they will for 1,000.

+1 for Disc Makers http://www.discmakers.com/quoter/default.aspx
300 is the minimum for replication (and as stated above...you want replication, not duplication)
I've used them for the last 20-some years & always very pleased with both quality and pricing.
They will match price on any written quote if need be.

Give me a call next time you're running more than a few thousand. DiscMakers can't touch us on those sized orders.
