hello.

beeing totaly new in film making, i took some info.
everybody told me, go out and shoot...and i agree
my question is if i can start with a normal "handy cam"? or i have to buy a good one. the thing is that i do not have a lot of money for the moment, but i have a little cam.

what will you recommend to have as minimum software and hardware.

thank you for all advise

Shooting with ANY cam will improve your technique, so go for it. Work on composition and play with lighting.

Are you on a mac platform or PC?

Stick with the handycam. Like Ryan said, composition and lighting are what you need to work on. You can do both of those with ANY camera. The more you do the more you'll learn about what you need in a camera when it comes time to upgrade.

Most of the major NLE's have demos available - try them all out and see what you like. Vegas may be the best for the money though if you are on a PC. That said you can make good edits in windows movie maker if you have to. Just go by the min requirements on the mfr's websites to see what hardware you need.

i have a pc with vegas and a mac with the basic imovie.
the problem is mac is old, slow and not powerfull.and pc has a lot of soft and hardware problems. so i have to buy something else.mac with final cut??

i used to use an imac g4 to edit on imovie when i was just starting using a small panasonic camcorder then later upgraded to final cut and a new computer and after years of that finally got a dvx you should go with a handycam and learn everything! then wait for the hvx or hpx to have a nice price drop=] thats what i would do

Vegas works great and it's easy to use. Check out the Vegas section on this site for lots of good insight.

Welcome to the addictive world of filmmaking.
