Need to fix (color) only sky in video clip

So basically I have a few clips where the sky is a little bluish right before night. In the timeline of the video this scene needs to take place after it's full night. Unfortunately, there was 2 different locations roughly 30 minutes apart and the Director didn't want to wait to shoot the scene until it was completely dark since a few of our talent needed to leave early. Is there a way to color a dusky blue sky into pitch black w/o altering the rest of the clip? Secondary color functions in Apple Color, Garbage Mask, Matte? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on how dynamic the motion is on any give shot. If the camera moves a lot resulting in a skyline that isn't consistent, you can create a garbage matte and then key-frame it to follow the skyline. Then, use that to key in a copy of the footage with the sky darkened through color correction. If the shot is fairly steady, or locked down, you can create a fake "grad ND" using a feathered color matte (black) with opacity adjusted to taste.

It really depends on the shot. It might be possible, OTOH there won't be any stars in the sky after you darken it.
