Need suggestions for audio in photo exhibit

A photographer friend of mine will be returning from Africa soon. She will be having a showing of her work, and asked me to brainstorm a solution for what she wants to achieve.

Her goal is to take the audio clips she got with a portable recorder as she was taking the pictures and have them play in a continuous loop at each piece.

I understand that, depending on the venue and how close the photos are to each other, this might be difficult. But she is willing to show fewer pieces, spaced further apart to facilitate the audio portion.

My job is to figure out an unobtrusive way to play clips in continuous loops, through some kind of speakers (she wants speakers, not headphones). I am guessing that there are relatively inexpensive MP3 players that will play a single track in a loop, and I also know that there are small speakers around (maybe some that are even battery operated). I am optimistic that I may even be able to mount the whole rig behind each photo.

Any thoughts or experiences anyone can share about something like this? She has some money, but not a ton. The cheaper I can do this, and still be effective, the better.

Thanks.

Have you looked at possibly renting from a local A/V outfit? There are parabolic speakers that mount overhead for kiosk displays in high-traffic areas... these would be ideal for the exhibit, if cost isn't prohibitive.
