GH2 Need some recommendations for an EVF eyecup and sun shade I can adapt to any lens

Well, I thought it was about time that I stop screwing around and fix a couple issues I have with the GH2. If you guys have some recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

1) I want to finally cut out the light leak from the EVF. Most people prefer the LCD and maybe a hoodloop combo, but I'm much more comfortable with the EVF; problem is that in daylight there is considerable light leak making it harder to find focus. I'd like something to give me complete coverage around the eye, almost like a suction cup haha.

2) I need some kind of makeshift / cheap shade I can strap to any lens. I don't care for a matte box and on my gini rig, it just won't be compatible with my workflow. Maybe somebody knows of a cheap elastic nylon shade that can at least extend out and cover one angle?

I have a Cinetactics Matte Blox I'll sell ya or trade for a lens or something if you're interested. That way you can mount a filter if you want, but you can just use it to keep the light off the lens. Comes with the big extended hood also.

I've thought about the cinematics matte box before and other brands as well. The reason I don't want full coverage around the lens is because I'm constantly fiddling around with my vari ND. I can just tell I'd get frustrated when reaching into the hood / matte box to make adjustments. Many times just a couple fingers covering one part of the lens is more than enough to block out the sun for my needs. I essentially need a tiny "visor" to give me just a little bit of coverage.

lol, yeah I figure that's why most don't.

Chris, I had one for a bit I used on a Canon HV20. Totally "dwarfed" the camera, when I converted to HF100s (even smaller) I sold mine. I've kind of thought about getting another from time to time so why don't you PM me with a description of what you have and what you have to get for it.

Roman, did you get the eyecup / bluestar cover yet? I'm about to do the same thing but want to see how yours worked out for you. I'm a fan of the EVF as well. I've found a shooting scope rubber shock protector that looks workable @ 40mm but they run about $20 which is ridiculous for a round piece of rubber that flares on the end.

Yes! well, kind of. I got my bluestar eye cushion in... and... well, it's HUGE. I was an idiot and bought the large oval size before I even had the eyecup to measure how big the cushion needed to be. The eyecup hasn't gotten in yet, but I image that for $3 including shipping, that it might take just a "few" days longer than expected to arrive. When it does, I'll measure it, and then purchase the correct cushion size from bluestar. I think this is going to really improve how I work with the GH2. By just cutting out light from the evf in day time, I improve exponentially in terms of pulling focus and shooting good footage. Blocking out sunlight from the EVF makes such a massive difference, that it's hard to believe I've gone this long without taking care of it.

Is that eye cup supposed to slide over the current EVF rubber or were you going to perform surgery on it?

Post some pics when you get it all strung together.
