need some constructive criticism

Hmm, well it looks pretty ambitious. Unfortunately I think a lot of people aren't gonna be able to get past the amateur vfx. They're not terrible, but man is that a lot to try and do.

I'd be interested in seeing it though. The teaser definitely shows that you've put some work into it. You're not doing yourself any favors going the fantasy route though. The only way to keep it from being super cheesy is to have a giant budget, i think.

But hey, good effort. I'd at least watch it.

Videocopilot tutorials should be an inspiration, but too many people using the templates and just put their own titles in. Get creative, do something unique.

Doing VFX is not easy and looks pretty amateurish if not done very well.
Avoid any effects/greenscreen/3D andwhatnot as much as possible and try to shoot practical if you can.

VFX could be a good thing or bad thing. i think i've seen stuff on par with what you have being broadcast on major television networks. i mean, it looks tv stuff.

VFX aside, i thought the mini-zooms were a bit out of place.

NOTE: good or bad VFX, if your content is good, and the VFX aren't too distracting, then whatever, it's a short, it's not like you were planning to get distribution, anyway.

these are all fair and good cricisms...i agree sofar...i would only add that you should remove the word "OF" from the teaser phrase "In The Year OF 2010" doesn't sound right. i don't think anyone really says it that way. that's all.

VFX sins are forgiven if the story is there.

Is it?

I did recognize (and have used) some of the "sound design" free sounds you're relying on for impact in the trailer. They will be considered cliche in the not too distant future.

Other than that, we didn't see enough to know where you're going with that. Good luck.

thanks guys!
The plan with the FX is to keep it stylized, since, you are right, a big budget is needed for it too look "real".

The fantasy direction is always difficult, i mean the viewer (who isnt on dvxuser) will be wanting to be engulfed in your fantasy world, they arent friendly when they have expectations for vfx, and Unfortunatley if they smell something odd, they look for issues, problems and such... on a plus side though, i think you have great storytelling here... your not telling too much, yet there is a feeling of "i have the goods." That works well for you.. But all in all props to you dude.. Its evident you put some work in on this project, good luck.

Yes, it would be better without the "of."

Props to your effects, though. That's actually damn good for being a one-man crew.

I think you already know how hard it will be to sell this to an unsympathetic audience, though, just from what people have said already. To that, I wish you huge immeasurable oodles of luck!

From first look,

The story looked interesting. Text, I'd change since it screams Andrew Kramer. Some of the trailer sound crashes seemed out of place as did some of the orchestral hits. The crashes seem like you looked at the WB Clash trailer and took a cue from that. I'd avoid the crashes at the end. The score at the end seemed out of place too. I'd almost like to see if so the score continued and a simple Coming Soon pop up.

The quick zooms didn't do anything for me either. It looked like a mistake since it was so brief.

It looks pretty good for an indie show. I'm wondering what the game plan is for the film though. The thing with Fantasy or any VFX now is that it needs to be spot on photo-realistic for it to work well. I don't have an answer for that. But the story seems to be there. The technical end might be dragging a bit. But, it's pretty cool for what it is.

Yes, grammatically speaking you are 100% correct. It's not "In the year of 1999, The Sixth Sense came to theaters." It's "In 1999, The Sixth Sense came to theaters." There is no need ever for "the year of" and if you do put "the year" you don't have "of" for sure...

Minor note, but yes.

I don't like the font. It looks too familiar like something from MS Word. Actually is it from Premeiere? I think that's where I know it from.

Kind of a subtle thing but I think it affects the impression of the film quality.
