Need settings for editing GH1 on Avid!

I am using the GH1 and Avid to cut my first feature film and need to know if I have the correct resolution selected in Avid for the project.

When I create a project I choose 1080p 29.97 Is that correct?

I then click "Tools" and go to the Media Creation option. When I click, it gives a number of "Resolution" options. DNxHD 145 MXF is automatically selected.
Is this the correct setting or should I choose something else?

My fear is that I will edit the entire film at this resolution and then find that I should have chosen a higher resolution for a "filmout" or for professional theatrical distrubution.

Does anyone know which settings I should choose when using GH1 1080/24p?

I don't use AVID but I have to say that that is wrong. In EDIUS I do my projects at 1920 x1080 23.98p. EDIUS removes pulldown at this setting. I haven't tried the 1080p24 native patch yet but I will hack my camera and try it when the next version is available shortly.

Depends really. How are you getting the footage into Avid in the first place? You won't be able to (fast or otherwise) import the .mts files. You'll have to go through a recompression stage (preferably transcoding to a fast-importable format).

I use Voltaic, seems to work ok creating DNxHD QTs which I then fast import into Avid (remember 601/709 and no alpha). At this stage you can specify DF or NDF TC.

I'm in PAL land where we don't have to deal with all this ballache, but from what I can tell, the GH1 records in 30fps NDF so cutting at 29.97 would prob make more sense. Dunno what that'll do to your audio though.

Meh I'm sure someone better versed in NTSC TC'll jump in...

Media Composer 5, just out, will import GH1 AVCHD and transcode as it works. DNXHD145 is a very high quality, high resolution codec. You could actually go lower and never tell the difference.
