Need SD card for full 16:9 capture?

Gentlemen, I greatly appriciate your help. I am a producer who has a cameraman who usuall uses a VariCam for shoots... but the budget of this project isnt that high so I have decided (%80) to go with the dvx over any HD camera or canon camera. However... he is telling me that the rental shop is telling him that to capture 16:9, 24 you have to capture to SD cards? and not tape... therefore greatly increases the price? Is this true? I cant believe it... please tell me tape is fine!

The DVX doesn't have a full res 16:9 setting. There is a digital squeeze mode that will give you a 16:9 image, but you lose a little resolution. However, that is just recorded to tape. The DVX has no SD card slots.

Are you perhaps confusing the DVX100 with the HVX200?

The DVX doesn't need (and indeed, as HorseFilms points out, can't even use) SD cards.

The HVX200 can shoot high-def 16:9 24p but requires P2 cards to do so (well, either cards or some alternate recording medium such as a FireStore).
