Need PCMCIA slot?

Probably a silly question but I can't figure it out. How do you get files from the P2 cards to the computer. Can you do it over firewire? I have a laptop with a PCMCIA slot but somebody wants to buy it from me so I thought it might be a good opportunity to upgrade. The problem is the new laptop I;m looking at has an expresscard slot instead, so I'm wondering if I might be getting rid of something I would need if I decide to purchase an HVX? Thanks.

If the new laptop only has an ExpressCard slot, you'll need the Duel Systems adapter.

You can also offload the P2 cards using a USB or Firewire connection (for PCs and Macs, respectively), but it requires you to stop shooting and even turn off the camera after the offload, there is no way to get out the connection mode without it.

Thanks for the prompt reply THoff! I know I can always count on you infinite wisdom. So USB 2.0 for PC? Shutting the camera down for a few minutes probably won't be a problem in my new approach to shooting sports. I'm going to intentionally try to shoot less but better! Last year I had 58 hours of footage to edit through! Less is more, just have to predict when the good stuff will happen. Do you know how much that adapter is THoff?

The adapter retails at $119.00. However, it's more convenient to not have to hassle with an adapter, so if you can get a PCMCIA slot that'd be a tad more convenient.
