Need P2 info verified

Is this data correct or at least in the ballpark? If not, can someone correct it. Thanks

1080P 24fps: around 13 minutes

1080 60i : around 4 minutes

720P 24fps : around 13 minutes

720P 60P: around 4 minutes

For which media size? Plus I suspect it will be tough to truly verify anything until NAB.

Also keep in mind that the 1080 24p will be written to a 60i stream like the DVX does with SD. Jan mentioned that it one of these threads.

The 4gig card. Thanks!

Hard to say as I'm still unclear whether the 24p modes will actually write to P2 with their pulldown or at their native frame rates.

So the only 1080P will be 24 and 30 fps. I can't wait to use the 720 60p for effects work.

Your right, because if it's true 24p to P2 then that changes it vs maybe a 60P with flagged frames. Well, it's only a few more days tell we get many answers.

It seems logical either way. I'd be more in favor of the native frame rates. If you think about it there's really no place you could play a P2 back other than the camera or in an NLE. Both of which would be capable of adding the pulldown.

But will it be written on the card that way... that's the question. Or will it know how to delete the "C" frame...

I expect that if there's firewire streaming, it'll send the full 60i stream out the firewire port, but for recording on card, I think there's a possibility they may know how to drop the "C" frame and record 80mbps... or maybe they just record the whole stream because there is no provision for flagging "active frames" in 60i in any other form of DVCPRO-HD recording...

Oh definitely out the FW port(assuming it has one) it will have to be 60i at all time in order to be usable. It would be great to have the option to write to P2 with or without pulldown.

Would it though? Moving the data through the FW port would, presumably, be the same as transferring a file via a network protocol and framerate wouldn't be an issue at all (mathematically speaking at least) - should be just like copying a file from one disk to another.

Since we're not going to tape, there shouldn't really be a need for the pulldown; unless they're maintaining the 60i process on P2 for legacy/compatibility reasons.

Yes, except that there's already an existing standard for DVCPRO-HD transferred over firewire. And it's 100mbps. Likely the HVX will have to conform to that standard, in order to make it usable with FCP firewire capture, and dubbing to AJ-1200HD decks.

However, who's to say that they couldn't just implement a menu switch, and let you have it both ways? i.e., a menu setting that says firewire output: "active-frame-only", or "compliant". Maybe they'll implement something like that?

Yes but that's only because it's coming off of tape. I could easily see them maintaining that standard with P2, but logically speaking it would be completely unneccesary since the captured data on the P2 is already a "file" - theoretically speaking of course.

I think we'll be seeing more of a drag & drop sort of thing rather than a typical tape/ingest style of operation. Could be wrong though. :)

Having just read through the docs on the P2 recording technique, it does appear that P2 utilizes the same 60i recording methodolgy as their other 24p products. Kind of a shame really when there doesn't appear to "always" be a need, but I do understand why they would do that in order to maintain parity with the formats.

Poooh...

For streaming, I think it probably has to, but for P2 ingest and file transfer, there's no need to. The question is how do they maintain compatibility with the existing streaming protocol, while best utilizing the space on the card? I'm pretty sure that for streaming, like live "capture through a "DVCPRO-HD Rack" type of product, they'll have to at least have the option of maintaining the full 100mbs stream. But for P2, you don't need to stream at all, so they won't have to waste space on the card like that. It'll capture space-efficiently to the card, and you can transfer the files via firewire or USB2 just like a computer network protocol (my guess, but it sure seems logical), but when "streaming" (to an outboard hard disk, or outboard tape deck, or to a computer capturing on the fly) I'm betting they'll keep the 100mbs data stream intact.
