I would like to get recommendations for a descent portable P2 card reader solution. After buying the camera $ is an issue, so I am looking for an inexpensive way to get the P2 footage into the laptop or desktop computer.

Do I have to buy something like the Panasonic AJ-PCD2GPJ Card reader ( external ) - Hi-Speed USB - P2 Card - Mac, PC
for $307? or is there a cheaper device that will take a P2 card and feed it into the computer's USB port?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Well, the most inexpensive way would be to just use your camera itself as a P2 card reader.

Second least expensive is to get a PCMCIA PCI slot reader for a Windows computer, which should be under $100.

After that, the least expensive is the AJ-PCD2, which you can find for around $330.

We went with the AJ-PCD2 and it works like a charm.. I personally like to limit camera usage if its not actually 'doing work'.

You didn't say if you are using a Mac or PC? The AJ-PCD2G (which is what I have) is probably the best solution for Windows platforms - provided you download the proper drivers from Panasonic website. Works beautifully.
