Need new computer monitor for post

I've been using an old Samsung 906cw for post and it's tough to get colors right and the brightness/contrast are pretty bad. Looking into getting a new monitor but was wondering if there were any tried and true ones out there specifically for editing and post.

any suggestions?

Ideally, you want to have a broadcast video monitor that's separate from your computer monitor, and is getting is signal from a card or outboard device that feeds it a true video signal over SDI or maybe HDMI.

Panasonic, JVC, Sony make the monitors, along with Flanders Scientific, Ikegami & others.

AJA, Black Magic Designs & Marox make the SDI/HDMI interfaces.

Using a Matrox or blackmagic card and a cheap HDMI splitter, you can use your on-camera monitor for accurate color (especially if it has blue-only) and also stick a big HDTV on your wall to double check how your stuff would look on a large consumer TV (and be able to see things like matte or mask or keying issues). It's a decent setup if you don't have thousands to drop on monitoring.
