I decided to post this on this forum since it is made up of shooters like myself. Yes we all have insurance but you really don't know if it's any good until you have a decent size claim and then the company "pushes back" and perhaps your agent goes to bat for you, or doesn't.
My policy is coming due soon and after watching the storm called Sandy it got me thinking about dusting off the policy. My question is:
Any shooters out there have any claims rejected from major insurers and if so which ones? I am presently with Indiana Insurance Co which was Safeco. Never had a claim with them but I have had claims over the years and the majority required my INDEPENDENT agent to go fight them for me:
• Van broken into in hotel parking lot while at lunch and the insurance company tried to weasel out of it claiming "unattended vehicle".
• Wide angle lens fell out of helicopter into Lake Erie, insurance company tried to worm their way out of it claiming "maritime loss" but my agent at the time fought them based on it being a rental item.
• Lots of stuff stolen from a hotel room and the insurance company claimed "no sign of forcible entry".
And several others...
I also find myself in the middle of demonstrations, like the recent anti-Nato one in Chicago, and my policy won't cover "civil disturbances". So, if you have any success or horror stories, mainly about the big companies like Farmers, Allstate & SF which I plan on getting estimates from, I'd like to know. I am leaning towards going with an Independent Agent though, someone who will fight the claims dept.
Many thanks
