Need help with Shoot rig purchase

Hi guys, I've scoured and searched all available info for shoot rigs here, and on Cinema5d.

I'm a new shooter, have purchased a 7D , a manfrotto tripod/fluid head monopod. Got my lenses, got the audio squared away ( juicedlink 4 ch on the way).

Now i need to pull the trigger on a stabalizing rig. Not a stedicam setup, but a shoulder mount ala Zacuto/redrock/ korean guy etc....

Obviously a hard decision. Especially since in my area there are NO rigs to check out. IT's all web. I suppose Los Angeles may have some stuff in stock on the higher end.

What I want: Follow focus. as Lightweight as i can afford-- ability to kludge on a Juiced Link and a lav receiver pack, and possibly a Zoom ( at times) .
I need the ability to quickly go on and off tripod. I want as minimal as possible, but still max amount of help for steady shots. I'm doing run and gun, documentary interviews, and in studio/live concert footage of music artists.

I'd love to spend under 1k. Zacuto is out of the question. just too expensive.

I've seen a zillion other workarounds, but I'm even more confused than before. if I could try the damn thing out it would help immensely.
Is there anyone in the North San Diego county area that has a rig I might be able to handle for a sec? If not, can you guys chime in on what you know works for your set up?

I'll have a Z finder for sure, and will maybe down the line go for an LCD monitor for instudio ( not the run n gun)
Much appreciated, any help to kick me over the edge and make a decision.

btw: could care less about brand names, and I'm pretty handy, but have no access to a machine shop.

thanks so much... great resource for all here!
