Need help with projecting 2.35:1

I'm shooting my film currently by masking of the monitor and then cropping it with masks in post to get 2.35:1. I'm going to be showing this at the screening room at my school and would like to project it widescreen without the bars on the top and bottom. I can play it off the tape or DVD inside the room. Does anyone know how I could go about showing it in the full widescreen so it will take up as much of the screen as possible?

The projector is in a permanent spot on the ceiling as it is a very nice screening room. I'll take a look at the zoom option though. Thanks.

Is the projector 4:3 or 16:9? This will make a difference as to how you prepare the DVD for proper aspect ratio during projection. In either case there will be some letterboxing, more so on the 4:3 than the 16:9. Unless the screen is 2.35 (actually 3.40 these days), there will be letterboxing.

It turns out the widest that it can be is 16:9. How can I go about getting a masked 2.35:1 image out of avid so it can be a 16:9 DVD?

don´t know about AVID but in Liquid you make a 16:9 timeline and then scale the 4:3 image (the full frame) to "max X keep aspect". then it plays it in 16:9. if you shot in letterbox then the black bars will be gone. if you masked down further, then there will be blackbars again, but not too dramatic.
