I own two Toshiba HD DVD players. When I shoot video (always HD) I make both formats. I export an mpeg-2 at 18mbps and send that to DVD studio pro, where I change the DVD standard to HD DVD. This allows me to fit roughly 30 minutes of HD footage on single layer DVD that is viewable on Apple computers (with DVD player app) and any Toshiba, Onkyo or Xbox 360 HD add on drive. I also export an Apple ProRes file and send it to toast to convert to an AVCHD disc for my blu-ray players.
While HD DVD is a dead format, there are still people (like myself) who have HD DVD players and can continue to use them to watch videos in HD, even if it is on a single layer disc.
