Hey guys,
So I was recently given a 3-4k budget to buy:

A camera that needs to be able to shoot HD; I will be recording speakers indoors and interviews outdoors sort of a walking the street scenario.

Sound equipment for recording good audio in this situation.

Any advice on how to save money but not sacrifice quality?

I was looking into DSLR's but i know they dont have the best sound... Any suggestions would rock!

for the camera i would get a gh1.

head over to the audio section here and read up about different microphones. the stickies would be a good starting point. i know the zoom h4n recorder and rode ntg2 microphone are fairly popular as inexpensive options, but you have some room in your budget to spend more on audio.

Be advised that the H4n pre-amps aren't strong enough for the NTG-2. Folks using that combination are finding that recording levels are sub-par, even with the H4n's gain cranked all the way up.
