OTHER: Need Help with Camera Settings

Hey Guys,

We are a hindu temple located in India and we recently bought a few of the Panasonic AJ-PX270 P2 cameras and we are having some difficulty optimizing the settings. We do a daily broadcast every morning, and have been seeing some problems with the quality of the video. Attached below is a sample of the type of shooting done with the camera. Please note the lighting, the background and clothing of the personnel in the frame, as they are the same more or less everyday. Most of the lighting is composed of halogen lights and or tube lighting with occasional sunlight peaking through. We have been previously using the Panasonic AC 160 and loved those results. When we compare it to the new PX-270 we've found that the quality and sharpness on the PX-270 is a bit lower than the AC 160. Is this something that is done post production? or is there a setting for that?. Any idea as to what could be causing this? Any and all help is appreciated here. Thanks again!

The resolution on YouTube looks really low even after changing to 720p. Could you check your settings for resolution and framerate in the camera? Also, what codec are you using?

The video in the link is has 3 cameras The side cameras are the PX270's and the center camera is AC160. The video is a reference for the type of shooting we do. On the PX270 our resolution is 1920 X 1080 at 50p, the codec is AVC-LongG 25. We can't get the PX270 to look as sharp and detailed as the AC160.

Very Strange, the PX270 shouldn't be softer than the AC160. Had an idea, very long shot.. Most people seem to run 180 deg shutter on their cameras, i believe the PX270 may have a slightly different way of enabling this than the AC160.
Could it be that your 2 270's are actually running at 50th/sec frame rate instead of 100 (or whatever the nearest would be)?? This may explain some of the perceived lack of sharpness.

The other reason and the most common is having the lens stopped down too far, i believe the 270 is quite sensitive so maybe the lens is just stopping down more and softening the image slightly?

Sorry YCP, i do not have a 270 myself, maybe one of our members can help more as some also have the 270 now.

The PX-270 is incredibly sharp. It should have any issues with detail. How about the lens. Is it possibly set to Macro mode?

What is your YouTube workflow? The video looks off to me when viewing on YouTube.

Have you changed anything in the menu? Detail settings?

Auto Focus or Manual?

My first thoguht is to rule out the basic. So what are your settings? you said 1080 at 50P. What F Stop? Also start with matching the settings in the 160. Use a higher quality setting and see if you are losing detail right at the start. Play back right out of the camera using a external monitor. Make sure you are white balancing and have enough light and are not wide open on the lens. Use manul to check your settings. Also the 270 has so many advanced setting make sure they havent changed a setting in there. Start small first, also why did you get 270 when you already had a 160?
