Need help with camera settings for FCP

Hi all,

"I am overwhelmed by all the information on this site. I have a background in 16mm film, and finally decided to educate myself in DV. I am using a Panasonic DVX100A, to shoot a project; however, I will not be able to get into a course on FCP until the end of next month - the course I took on DV was a waste of time. When I asked specific questions on how to set up the camera from the start the answer I got was: " you learn that as you get experience." Then why pay to take a class claiming me to teach me something, if I'm only going to have to figure it out later myself? My goal is to project at 16:9 aspect ratio with the best possible image. I would really appreciate if someone could confirm my camera settings, so when I get to figuring out FCP I don't find out I spent a fair ammount of $$$ shooting something with the wrong settings. ANYONE IN THE SEATTLE AREA WANT TO MAKE SOME $$ tutoring me at a reasonable rate please send me a PM. Otherwise, here are the settings I am using, and some questions I have after my first shoot.
Scene file - I am leaving all the specific #settings at 0. Gamma is set to normal. Knee, what is knee anyway, is set to auto. Matrix normal, Skintone DTL:off Vdetail FREQ:thin Progressive:24p( if this was accidentally set to off is there a way to correct that?) Name EDIT:Yes, Save/ INIT:Yes
Camera set up: Syncro scan(what is synchro Scan?) -----1/25, Apect Conv:Squeeze, Set up: 0% 7.5% huh?
I so don't get SW MODE I don't even know what questions to ask, any input?
AUTO SW. A. IRIS:OFF, AGC,ATW,AF all are OFF
Recording SET UP. REC SPEED:SP, AUDIO REC 48K(16bit), MIC ALC:OFF, MIC GAIN 1 and 2 -50db, TC MODE is at DF, TCG at REC RUN, and I am pretty sure I screwed up setting up the Time code.
I am sure this will all make sense to me soon. I really don't want to find out when it's too late that I spent $$$ on shooting something wrong, and with the window of opportunity to capture the subject is closing fast I really need help."

These settings have little to do with FCP, and more to do with what you want to accomplish in camera. You need to learn more about your DVX, and fortunately there is a great resource for that available on this site from DVX/HVX guru Barry Green. I think most folks on this site would recommend this DVD:
