Need Help With Avid

:furious3: Hello everyone,
I could use some help here. I am having the following problems;

1.I am able to capture to Avid via camera (Z1u) but often times receive error messages like "the files are either corrupt or captured to this point, would you like to continue". This error i thought would be corrected with the latest release of avid (5.2.2.) it does not. Also, I tried to load clips via fs-pro hd with the parameters set to avid omf on the drive. Once avid is open i am able to recognize the drive through media tools but i am unable to view the clips.

2.Often times, more than enough upon opening avid, i get an error message "Access Denied" right before the Open Gl loads. This occurrence is inconsistent because it doesn' always happen when i open the software. I spoke with tech support at avid and they seem to think it's my operating system. I am using windows xp with media center.

3. When i transfer clips via camera to another drive on my computer in hdv native format (M2t) and try to import in avid, i often times get an error message "The MPEG file is not supported". This occurs more than i think it should since nothing during capture is changed or altered. Everything being captured from the camera was shot in 60i. Don't know why this occurs when it accepts some files and others aren't. Also, when importing straight from my hardrive with these native clips, it does a fast transport but then all of a sudden a real nasty more severe message occurs. "fatal error" something to do with debugger and then the whole software closes when i click on "debugger".

IT SEEMS WHEN I HAVE A HANDLE ON ONE SITUATION, ANOTHER COMES ALONG. I AM STILL PRETTY MUCH NEW TO AVID AND I AM TRYING MY BEST TO WORK AROUND THE KINKS BUT IT'S GIVING ME A DAMN HEADACHE EVERYTIME THESE ERROR MESSAGES APPEARS AND EVEN MORE SO WHEN IT CRASHES AND I HAVE TO REBOOT EVERYTHING.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THESE HEADACHES?????????
THANKS IN ADVANCE

I think tech support is right, you need to be running XP Pro. Also sounds like your video hardware might be non-Avid approved. Your system has to meet these requirements or you will most likely have issues: http://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/specs.asp#pc

Note the specifice cards listed by Avid. Other video cards, especially ATI cards, often have issues (locking up while opening GL services is usually a sign of that).

Good luck

Thanks for the information.
I have a dell 600 xps with a geforce graphic card 7800 gtx. If i had to switch video cards which one is recommended for my system?

From the above link:

NVidia QuadroFX 1400 PCI Express
NVidia QuadroFX 1300 PCI Express
Nvidia QuadroFX 1100 AGP 8X
NVidia QuadroFX 500 AGP 8X

I would start with moving XP Pro first. I have never heard of people using XP media center with Avid but I know XP Home is known to have issues with Avid.

Avid.com also has a very useful forum for people using Xpress. The first thing they will tell you though is to get your system specs up to speed.

Good luck

I Concur, Media Center is not for serious work, and is NOT Avid certified. The closer you can get your system to Avid's specs the more trouble-free it wll be.
