Just bought a Steadicam Merlin. but cant seems to balance it with my DVX100B. I've watched the instruction DVD, read the manual and refer to the merlin cook book and follow the setting but, but no matter how i trim it, it just cant seems to balance.
i am sure this is not what you wanna hear but it is not something that someone can tell you how to do. only you can help yourself. dont give up, follow the cookbook and adjust in small increments. you will get it, if you dont give up.
With so many different ways of adjusting it, I'm completely lost too, zerodrift. I just got mine and I swear I was playing with that thing for 10 hours and made no headway. The cookbook is totally useless. I also think it's funny that when they're setting it up on the DVD, they've got different weights than what's recommended in the cookbook for the DVX. Anyone out there willing to throw us a hint?
I can sympathize with you zerodrift. I bought the Merlin over a year back. It's a very finicky item. As jegonz suggested, you have to tinker with it, watch the DVD several times and eventually you will get it balanced.
Personally, I gave up on it because after I got my DVX100A to be balanced:
1. The clip attachment that holds the camera to Merlin was very suspect. Meaning, there were times when it just came apart. Not installing too much confidence in placing my expensive camera on this piece.
2. After 10 minutes or so, my arm was killing me.
