Need help setting up F3 with kipro mini

Hey guys, we have a sony f3 with s log conversion for tomorrow but unfortunatley, it's not a camera i've fiddled with nor the ki pro mini.

Can anyone give me a run down of how exactly to set this camera up to just start from rolling come tomorrow morning?

I'd like to send s log 444 out from the HD SDI out to the ki pro mini and record onto the CF cards but I'd ALSO like to record to the SXS cards incase there's a fault on the ki pro mini itself. Is this possible to record the 8 bit S LOG to the SXS card as well?

I have it setup right now, S log on, camera rolling, HD SDI out to the ki pro mini and I hit record on the ki pro as well but it doesn't roll, it shows that it's recording, but nothing is there and it locks up and I need to re start it to get anywhere.

I DO know that it works because I factory reset the kipro mini and recorded from the SDI out (NOT HD SDI) and it recorded that information (factory reset the ki pro) ...

but now it seems when i have the SDI cable coming from HD SDI that it locks up the ki pro.

Anyone feel like helping me out here?

Thanks!

The ki pro is not a 4:4:4 recorder, set the camera to output 4:2:2 and you will pick up the signal

do you think that is what is locking up the ki pro?

not certain, but it could possibly be why. I know there are alot of owners on here with ki pro minis, I will let them chime in, I know there are settings to enable the record triggering.

Camera set up; Duel link Gamma Select=on, take your video out of the A port on the F3 to SDI in on the Ki Pro, you will need to set up SDI out or HDMI out in the same menu depending on what type of monitor your using. I also set the SDI record control to HD SDI

I hope you have the 3.0 update on the Ki Pro if not you will have to use TC to start and stop the Ki Pro.

Ki Pro Mini; Config menu 3.0, Loss of Video=Cont Rec., Record Type=Normal, Super Out SDI or HDMI ( SDI or HDMI out of the mini to an external monitor, lets you see if the Ki Pro is rolling, with the 3.0 update, set TC in to TC Value, Arm Recording to Record Key, Camera Data C300 you will then be able to control the start/stop with the camera data through the A-Port HD SDI cable. The mini will start/stop regardless of TC code out of the camera being Free Run or Record Run.

If you do not have the 3.0 update you will need to set-up the mini start/stop using TC; Arm Record=TC/Rec key, TC in=SDI RP 188 this will only work with TC out of the camera set to Record Run, if you are using Free Run you will need to start/stop the mini using the record button on the mini.

Media; set your Encode type, format your cards. If this is the first time using the mini with the F3 always double check the mini when in record. Keep your battery voltage above 12.6 volts, the mini will sometimes do funny things or just shut down with low battery. Good Luck

Does audio come over the SDI from the F3 to the Ki Pro mini? I've read on Creative Cow that the HD-SDI output of F3 conforms to RP-188 standards and includes embedded audio and TC.
Just want to confirm this is fine and dandy before committing to it for a shoot tomorrow.

Audio does indeed travel from the F3 to the Ki Pro Mini via HD-SDI embedded. Just make sure you have HD-SDI selected as your audio source in the Ki Pro Mini menus.

Noticing a slight strobiness in the cadence of my footage with the Ki Pro files. Using Premiere Pro to view the footage. Same cadence when I render out to QT file.

Camera Settings:
System: Format: hQ 1920/23.98P
Video Set: Dual Link & Gamma Select: 1.5G YPbPr & S-Log

Ki Pro Mini Settings:
1.1 Record Type: Normal
2.1 Video Input: SDI
8.0 TC In: SDI RP188
8.2 TC Type NDF
SW Version 4.0.0.52

Premiere Sequence Settings:
Timebase 23.976 frames/seconds
Video Previews
Preview File Format: QuickTime (DeskTop)
Codec: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ)
1920x1080
Max Bit Depth/Max Render Quality

Any thoughts or ideas here?

I'm strictly referring to the movement on the screen, or the frame rate. On my system it looks slightly step printed, which I've never experienced on my system before. I'm viewing on a Mac Pro with an Nvidia GTX285 video card.

It's actually good to hear that you see it differently than me. Of interest though, is that I don't perceive the image as soft, as you stated, unless you're referring to shallow dof.

Thanks for the feedback, it's very helpful.

Perhaps I'm missing it, but I don't see any strobing or anything. The image does not appear to be soft either. I'm watching it on a basic MacBook Air.

Looked at it a few more times. I plays just fine, just let it download before you play it. The image softness is a combination of Vimeo 1080 compression plus slightly out of focus when the guys moves back.
I don't shoot anything at less than f4 unless I have to. When you are so close to the subject the slightest movement and you out of focus when wider than f4.
