Need Help Please! Down-converting HD to SD in FCP

Hey all, Sorry if this topic has been posted before but I don't have time to search through all the threads.

I am working on a documentary that I have been shooting with the DVX in 24pA mode (letterbox) with a 23.98 timebase in FCP. Tomorrow, I am shooting some aerial footage with the HVX and I need to know what the best frame rate to use. 720p/24PN, 720p/24P. I know that I will get more minutes out of the P2 if I use 24PN. So I think I am fine with that..

The question and trick here is, once the clips are loaded .mov's in FCP. How do I down convert these clips to match my letterbox SD 24pa footage in my timeline? I've heard there is a way to do it within FCP. I just do not know the way. Can someone be so kind and help me out.

Also, Let me know what frame rate you think I should shoot at tomorrow morning to best match the DVX 24pa footage that is already in my sequence.

Thanks to anyone that can provide info on this.

Shoot 720p/24PN....try overcranking at 48 & 60 fps as well. This will smooth out the
footage if it is bumpy at all. Just drop the 720 clip into 23.98 timeline
and it will size itself down.....you will have to render it.......you might have to adjust and crop to match your SD letterboxed footage.

yes it will... the reason why you get what you get out of 24pn is that it is only recording true 24 frames. So shooting more frames means eating more space.

I would test first....and rent extra cards....
you don't want to waste time off-loading cards
when paying for expensive chopper/aircraft time.
