Im working on this video

and those are the key words right there. not taking away from the image quality of the DVX, but it's still video. however you need to shoot like a motion picture production if you want similar results. one of the key things would be controlling your lighting...your lighting setup. another framing your shots and composition of those shots. finally in regards to scenes find ways to add color. doesn't have to be bright red...but look for settings, objects, and even wardrobe so that you have something on the screen that draws the viewers eye.

you're probably done shooting, but just something to keep in mind next time around.

as for the stuff you have...video depending on how you white balanced can be a tad red or a tad yellow. in your NLE use either the RGB adjustments, color mixer, or levels and adjust the colors to what suits your eye. if it's too red, lower the red...too yellow, raise the blue.

back the camera up and zoom in on your subject for meduim shots, or get a 35mm adapter, a letus35, i keep hearing great things on them.

The first 2 shots are pretty good but the 3rd shot looks pretty video for some reason to me. I might take a crack at them later but i've gotta run in awhile

Here you go. I didnt do 1 and 2 coz i felt they looked really good already, and only a simple crushing of the blacks would suffice...and i dont think 1 needs any retouching at all. I worked on 3 because imho that was the most 'videoish' of the shots, so here's my pass.

I did the basic crushing of blacks, then added some red and yellow to the highlights, and added a bit of blue to the shadows and midtones

EDIT: hmm, methinks advantech's first rendition of the last scene looks better though...

Here's a quick stab, no crushing blacks, just color grade and blur. I think sometimes blurring looks nice but it's always hard to let go of detail and hard to decide how much is enough.

thanks you guys, i really apperciated wat you guys did to the pictures.. im still trying to figure out the right look for the video. This is pretty much what happens in the scene, the guy calls his ex-girlfriend on his cell but she doesnt answer. then out of no where he sees a tv thats working in the middle of the city. And basically it shows his past memorys on the Tv... so hes kind of stressed because its how things used to be.. because he recently got dumped for cheating on her.

pretty big explanation for those three pictures. but yeah... im just trying to figure out whats a good way to color correcting it in a way that will enhance the mood of the character.

Thanks. I like that one too. The filter used really took off the harsh video edge.

I just applied a "Despeckle" filter with Photoshop. I believe it's under "Filters" and then "Noise". It's a nice subtle softening/noise reduction filter. I'm guessing a slight guassian blur could probably work too though.
