Ok so here's my problem. Ive been filming my brother's band for the past two shows using my dvx and another camera and I captured the audio into my camera through my on board mic...so obviously when your standing next to the speaker its going to sound distorted. They have their biggest show tonight and I really want to patch my camera from the mixer that they will have...only problem is I cant get in contact with the guy putting it on to find out what type of cable i need to output patch the mixer with. Is there a universally safe cable i can buy? For instance, will every mixer have an xlr output? Or RCA to xlr? I really hope you guys can help because otherwise im going to buy something blind lol.

If the run is any significant distance, you're going to want an XLR regardless. The only question is whether the mixer will have an XLR out to give you or 1/4" So I'd buy an XLR and a 1/4" adapter. If you go to a musicians store and tell them that you are trying to go from a live mixer to a "recorder" that has XLR in, they can help you. Do NOT say you are going to a camera or they will get confused.

thank you so much...lol ya. they will not be able to comprehend the allmighty DVX hahahaha cheers
