Need Follow Focus by July 8th!

So I'm shooting an ambitious short film on a micro-budget
that took several days of casting. IndiSystem isn't responding
to any phone call or email... what's going on with them?
Jag35 can't get the D Focus to me until the 10th the second day
of the shoot (July 10th) and the shoot is only three days.
I can't buy the one on ebay from india because it won't be here
until the 15th.

What do I do? I'm in Van Nuys, CA, just north of Los Angeles.
Does anybody know where I can get a full follow focus set up
with gears for less than 400 bucks? Anybody selling one?
Anybody live in LA and willing to let me borrow yours? A super
cheap charity rental?

Many thanks for helping me find a solution.

I guess I am not totally surprised that you are having trouble making a rush purchase on a low budget during a holiday weekend. At this point, it may be that the only way you are going to get one by the 8th is to visit a brick and mortar store or rent one. Abel Cine Tech, which both sells and rents gear, has a store in LA, don't they? Also, what kind of camera are you going to be using? People should probably know that if you want them to recommend a system at a particular price point or let you borrow theirs.

I just have a T2i using old Yashica Lenses (28mm F2, 50mm 1.9,
135mm 2.8) I'm also using the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8, Samyang
6.5mm fisheye but I won't need the FF for those. I don't have a
rail kit either. I am using the Cokin filter system.

I tried to make this purchase sooner. I contacted indisystem
a week and a half ago. And Jag35 was sold out two weeks
ago but promised to ship the first week of July. Searching for
other options proved fruitless.

Simple, when I touch the lens that's mounted on the camera, the
image shifts a few pixels, when I get the follow focus in place, that
shift will be gone. Then, when I focus it will not create shifting problems
with the image.

I'm not quite sure what your reasoning is....oh wait, because there is none.

Follow focus' are almost a necessity when shooting something narrative...especially with these DSLRs.

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean that the countless number of professionals using them don't as well. OP is looking for a follow focus and your response has nothing positive to add...as a matter of fact, I have no idea why you decided to post in this thread.

Finally, in response to the OP - try giving Tim at Indisystem another call. He is pretty busy, but when you mention you have a specific shoot date, he is usually pretty quick to ship things out.

Keep giving him a call or try craigslist in your area for a rental or browse for a used one.

Best of luck,

Kegan

I guess us professionals over here do not use them.... & yes my post does mean a lot because I can show you countless reasons why you do not need one. So instead of creating a thread saying you need one I just don't see it. So while it might have not been helpful in your eyes it is to me because it's simply a waste of money. You cannot be so sure that everyone uses these things....

Also do yourself a favor and stop following my posts, too many times your right behind me like Mother Teresa trying to start something.

I'm an active member on the board and have been for 4 years. I browse through many threads - if I happen to disagree with a statement you make, I will voice my opinion. You have the right to do the same. You do not however, have the right to tell me what to do or not do.

The point of this thread was to look for a follow focus within the week - he clearly has a reason for wanting one and is not asking whether he should buy one or not. If the thread was whether or not he should buy one, then sure - your answer would have been relevant.

Apologies to the OP for the off topic posts.

wow, this is the exact reason i rarely use this forum anymore, personal issues out weigh a simple question for a follow focus recommendation, lets keep the boards productive and give our fellow indie filmmakers some support. :) Both are valid points, I use them and don't use them, camera shake is a problem, the cheapies on ebay work and are less than $200. But make sure you get a whip to avoid camera shake and AVOID mounting the follow focus under the lens gear as it has a tendency to lift the lens up, on the side just slightly snug works best. Peace brothers

There's a cool post somewhere on here about building a really simple one that works, with just a metal hose clamp, rubber band and a long screw for the handle, so you might want to build up one of those for $10 and test it.

Otherwise, a rental place would be ideal.

If touching the lens causes it to shift then how is follow focus going to help? Seems like you need new lenses not extra attachments. Maybe these lenses work different to the ones I use, but it seems like a lens issue.
