need fake needle + syringe

but it does not address a need -- I need to find a fake syringe and needle prop that i can use to fake a drug addict shooting up. I need the sort of prop that I can use for a close up shot where it will appear as though the addict is actually injecting the syringe needed into her vein. I have access to real syringes and needles, but I need a fake one, the kind with a "needle" that retracts or whatever to create the illusion of a needle entering the skin and vein.
 
It hit me, perhaps simplicity is the key --- what if i just use a real 1cc syringe and needle, sugar (or powdered sugar) and cinnamon for the fake heroin, a spoon, heat it up in the spoon, suck it up into a real syringe/needle, bring that down to the arm and vein. Now I use a real 1cc syringe with the needle cut off about half way. It will look like an injection is happening, especially if I use an empty syringe so I can push the plunger down without anything spilling out the needle. Thoughts?
 
I just got some shots to go overseas. I shouldn't have read this. I hate needles.

I think that would work, but be careful not to actually inject yourself. I don't know how blunt / sharp a cut needle would be.
 
Randall-Thats good cutting it blunt is what i've done, but I dont know if you use latex at all? but you can make a small appliance to go on the injection site so the blunt end can sink into the latex and as long as the appliance is long enough and sealed around the edges what you cook up to look like smack will drain under the fake skin. Paint it up to look like there's a vain and it should look pretty real. Also Before I knew anything about latex I did a scene one time in high school with a hypo and took a small drill bit and pulled the needle out and made the hole that it slipped back into a bit larger so when the blunt edge hit my skin it slid into hypo chamber and I just did a shot of the needle going in abd the plunger going down a bit and it looked pretty good. Hope something I said helped

For the cut off needle, I think I will file it dull, and seal it up with some clear epoxy so there is no sharpness to the tip. Safety foremost.

Do you think a needle from a 1cc syringe (a.k.a. tuberculin syringe) would show up on film, or would the diameter of the needle be too small (sort of like real rain -- too small for film, thus movie rain from rain generators)?
 
Depends what your shooting with I use a letus extreme and a 28 mm lens so I can get some close shots. But test it out, if not it never hurts to use one shot for the needle and another for the hypo chamber, dont know the real medical term for were the smack would go, heh using jump shots the viewer would never know the difference.
 
we used the really cool prop needle with the retrackable needle and the fluid flows into the handle. check it out on my site www.jetaddiction.com look under movies - chemical evil - just over half way. used it on the rat. cool
