EXPEDITION TO FIND THE LOST INCAN CITY OF PAITITI
We are currently recruiting for team members, specifically the roles of CAMERAMAN and MEDIC - if you are interested in fulfilling either of these roles or think you could be an asset in another capacity please read on.
________________________________________________________________________
Cameraman:
Looking for an adventure cameraman with good technical skills and own equipment (HD broadcast standard) available for 3-4 weeks shooting in August 2011.
Medic:
Looking for someone with a medical background (doctor, nurse, etc.) with practical experience available for 3-4 weeks for the expedition in August 2011.
________________________________________________________________________
Our intention is to professionally record this expedition in the form of a documentary which we will later present to film festivals and TV stations in the hope of selling.
We have approached numerous large and small companies ranging from travel operators, tour companies, adventure companies and airlines with applications for funding or free flights, etc but have unfortunately been unsuccessful due to either their only funding charitable projects or just a general lack of funds to devote to our project.
This means that together all expedition members will absorb costs – eg – flights, food, accommodation, equipment, etc.
That said we do have some favourable connections and are currently in the process of negotiating discounted clothing and equipment, heavily discounted satellite phones, discounted boil in the bag food and we are also currently in talks exploring the possibility of hitching a ride with military transport from Europe to Peru (which would save us a lot of money if it can come to fruition).
We are also in contact with both John Blashford Snell and Gregory Deyermenjian, legendary explorers themselves who have spent many years in search of Paititi (and made many other discoveries in the process) who have been offering us advice regarding the project.
However we have encountered some difficulties with some key members pulling out recently. At this stage our confirmed members are myself, the expedition leader and our archaeologist. We also have a BBC editor attached for post production.
I am looking to recruit individuals to fill some key roles on this project. The essential roles I am looking to fill are:
Cameraman
Medic
People with other skillsets could also be useful, especially anyone who speaks Spanish and (dare I dream) Quechua, but these are the two roles that are priorities. As the role of cameraman is so essential I even have some funds to put towards flights for whoever is selected in this role – this would probably be enough to cover a flight from California to Peru (what was allocated for our previous cameraman – as he pulled out these funds will be available). Obviously depending whether or not negotiations are successful regarding Europe to Peru flights affects how advantageous it is for a cameraman to be living in a particularly country from their own perspective. We would also need to discuss issues regarding film equipment and insurance of said equipment.
I want to make it very clear, this will be a serious enterprise, both as a documentary which must be shot at broadcast quality to have the potential to be marketed professionally at a later date and also as an expedition which will involve some arduous walking and living conditions. Physical dangers will include spiders, snakes, bats, jaguars, malaria, native tribes, etc.
We are taking safety seriously (hence the desire for a medic as our previous medic pulled out). Recommended vaccinations and other medical advice will be communicated to all selected team members. We will also be sure to have a satellite phone on the expedition and will employ the services of a local guide when in the jungle. We also intend to research the possibility of obtaining snake anti-venoms in country as well.
For these reasons I would insist that anyone interested in being involved be of at least 18 years old, be in reasonable physical shape with no medical conditions that could threaten their health on this trip under extreme conditions. I would also like to make it clear that participation in this project will be at your own risk.
What I can offer to everyone involved is an adventure. Yes there will be risks. Yes there will be unpleasant times. However what makes us unique I think is that we are not a fully funded scientific elite with unlimited resources and state of the art tools. We are simply a renegade band of individuals with a passion for adventure. In these days of modern conveniences and information piped into our homes through TV and internet some of the romance has disappeared from exploration. This trip promises to rekindle some of that magic and trek through some truly unexplored territory – we are just going to get up and do it!
MONEY: Also if we are able to sell the documentary any profits made that become available to us will first and foremost be used to reimburse any reasonable expenses occurred by the expedition party including flights, if applicable, food, accommodation costs, vaccinations, etc. providing we are all careful to keep hard copy receipts of everything. After all costs have been reimbursed any remaining funds will be distributed on agreement between project members.
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this. If anyone is interested please do get in touch – like I have said the roles of cameraman and medic are the priorities to be filled, but if you feel you have a skillset that would also be useful please do come forward!
