Need an on set battery -powered playback speaker amp?

I bought one of those for our model rocket club to use for countdowns and other announcements during our launches at the local parks. Although not exactly hi-fi, it works great for our intended purpose and carries well for hundreds of feet outdoors. As it happens, I even bought the exact same speaker stand you mentioned. We've also run background music through it from a Bluetooth-connected smart phone a few times.

My only (minor) complaint is that you don't get anything near the specified 20-hour battery life when (ab)using this system as we do. Even with the bass rolloff on, wind noise creates enough low-frequency rumbles that the amplifier is dissipating a lot of power even when idle. The battery life is pretty much inversely proportional to the wind speed! We mute the mic as often as possible but it does get left on at times in the heat of an event and with our inexperienced users, and it doesn't help that we run it at full volume almost all the time. Inside, or where you could be careful about powering down when it's not in use, this wouldn't be a big problem.

I even borrowed it once to use when I was lecturing in a big noisy classroom and felt my voice needed a bit of a boost. Pretty good stuff.

Thanks Greg,

Yeah, they say "up to" 20 hours, and you nicely pointed out the caveats that make a difference. I was thinking it would be great to get 10-12 hours of intertmitant but hard work out of it. Not an extremely hi-hf device, but "pretty good stuff"; I agree.
Yes, the stand is slightly overbuilt for the 21 pound speaker.
