The LCD on my macbook is cracked and of course Applecare won't cover the cost of the repair.

I can get a new macbook for a couple hundred bucks more that what Apple wants to fix the darn thing.

I found a local shop that will fix it for a fraction of the cost; but if they fix it then the repair voids the Apple warranty.

I use my macbook on a daily basis and I'll have to save my pennies for a few months to let Apple fix it or I could let the local shop fix it over the weekend.

Does it make more sense to wait and save for a new Macbook?

I'd get it fixed locally and void the warranty.
Odds are you won't have any warranty repairs before it expires anyway and if you do, there's the local shop.

I had my laptop in my messenger bag in the back seat of my car. I caught a flat tire, changed it, thew the jack in the back seat and onto my messenger bag holding the laptop.

Funny though, there is no visible damage to the body but the lcd is screwed up; I didn't know anything was wrong until I turned it on.

When I took it to the applestore I left out the part about the jack landing on the bag but they knew that this type of damage was from "misuse" and wasn't covered by applecare.
