Hello all Im a DP / Director that works in Los Angeles for three popular magazines and I produce and shoot the web content. I also direct music videos on the side.
I do all my work now with the 2 HVX 200s and a Letus Extreeme.

I was thinking of saving for the Scarlet but so much is unknown about it right now. I thought I would buy the GH1 as a stop gap to fill the space till Im comfortable buying the Scarlet after I have seen and heard more when it comes out next year.

My ? is Im wondering if any of you that bought it are regretting your choice or has it been well worth it using it now. Im not worried about the money issue of this camera or the Scarlet. Im just want to make sure Im buying a fun and easy to use 2nd angle camera to go with my HVX 200.

I also own a Nikon D200 so Im good that the GH1 will not be my main still camera.
Any advice on the essentials I need when I buy it would be great. It seems Pana Direct is the best place to buy from is that correct?
Thanks

Not regretting, it's awesome. Sounds perfect.

If you already have a D200 no reason to want the 7D, especially since it's not even out yet and you want a stop-gap.

If you can find one, get one. I got one as a stop gap to having to buy 35mm adapters for my 3 EX's. It's a great tool and looks fantastic for that 3rd, shallow DOF angle. Fun to work with, too. And the price point is good while we wait for the whole DSLR industry to shake out over the next year. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much and what about buying the extra battery from Pana direct and also whats the best memory cards to use for video? The ones on the Pana site are crazy expensive.
Is it worth it to get the 2 year warrenty for $99, I think so yes? Im my job to fix even the littlest part of a camera cost way more than $99.

I have had no problems with a cheap transcend 16 gig SDHC card X 2.

Buy the genuine Pana batteries. Only ones that are guaranteed to work with new firmware updates. You can probably shoot all day on 3 batt's easy.

Doesn't the GH1 come with a Warranty? Their all-flash pro cameras come with a 5 year warranty...hmmm...I thought the Gh1 had at least 3 year, guess not. In any case I believe you can extend the warranty after the original has expired...and unlike health insurance they have no way of knowing that your camera broken is a pre-existing condition when you extended the warranty.

"3-yr Customer Care Plan (extended service plan) for Digital Cameras helps assure top product performance after the factory warranty has expired"
Call and ask if this means you can get it after old has expired.

San Disk Ultra II are class 4 but work great. Really good price too, $34 or so for two 4 gig cards @ Costco...probably even better prices online.

People have had problems with the Transcend cards. Not everyone, but some. San Disk is a great company.

Yeah thanks a lot, I think on the website its 1 year parts and labor and then the option to buy 2 yr extended. I havent had problems with my HVX 200 or Nikon D200 in 3 yrs so maybe I dont need it.

I thought for professional reasons and piece of mind $99 is nothing compared to a possible fix. I also will need to buy a 4/3 Nikon mount adapter. Anyone have this?

Yes, look to see about getting a Cieco7 adapter on Ebay...there might not be any listed right now.

Remember you need the Panasonic 4/3rds > Micro 4/3rds adapter and the Nikon adapter, I have a Nikon adapter from eBay with a AF confirm chip on it, but just get a normal one for $20 as the AF confirm chip doesn't work with the GH1.

I think he meant m4/3 to Nikon but the m4/3 to 4/3 to Nikon might be a better bet since you can use 4/3 lenses with on-camera electronic control, and I think the Nikon to 4/3 adapter is cheaper if you ever want to add more adapters, Canon FD, etc, you're not sinking more money into m4/3 adapter but I might be wrong on that.
