need advice on upgrading pc

I am looking to upgrade my system so I am able to edit HD 1080 from hvx p2 cards, add a client monitor and a monitor for color correction. I was wondering what equipment suggestions you wonderful people have.

Current system running Media composer 3:

Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2666 MHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB (2 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series
Hard Disk : SAMSUNG (1000 GB)
Hard Disk : WDC (74 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive : ATAPI iHAS120 6
Monitor Type : AL1715 - 17 inches
Monitor Type : Samsung SyncMaster - 25.5 inches
Network Card : Attansic (Now owned by Atheros) L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet Controller
Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.01.2600 Service Pack 3
DirectX : Version 9.0c (May 2008)

I would be concerned about using the ATI card with Avid. Have you tried it? I had very unpredictable results with anything other than an nVIDIA Quadro FX card. You can get them economically when you buy an older generation card on ebay (I got the FX 4500 for about $400). I think you'll find you'll get crashes and bugs if you stick with the ATI card on Avid, especially for HD.

It has worked fine so far. I was intending on upgrading that as well. meant to mention it. overall I am building the list of what I need and will acquire it as I can. Thanks for any input.
