Need advice on shooting convention

Shooting a convention of a speaker and misc. things going on during the event. My final output is DVD - not blu-ray. Albeit I want to get a camera that will provide good footage.

Is the HVX-200 a good one to go with for standard definition end result?

Or should I get the HPX-300?

I'm green to the camera stuff...have only used the Canon XL2 myself....ancient!

ANY advice greatly appreciated!!!!

this is one of the more contentious issues with P2 cameras.

the camera itself will be fine. the question is the length of time you need to shoot and the media you shoot to. if youre just shooting SD, you can use tape as normal.

if you are shooting HD in LONG, non-stop takes, you will need either:

1. a pair of large (32 or 64 gig) P2 cards
2. a firestore
3. shoot directly to a computer

unless you need to shoot single very, very long takes (longer than say 1 contiguous hour). you can use a couple of say 16 gig cards and shoot to one while you transfer the other. but then the discussion turns to what are you going to use to transfer with and to...

but its a discussion thats been had already. all you have to do is pick your preferred flavor and budget ; )
