Hi, I am new to DVXUSER and hopefully I am posting in the right place. I have a pentium 4 3.0Ghz PC win xp, I recently upgraded the ram to the max allowed 2GB, installed an ati radeon AGP HD graphics card(to connect to my HDTV and play Blue ray movies also for open GL 2.0 compatability with premiere pro cs4 after effects cs4), installed Blue ray burner, and increase system memory performance by shutting off all visual effects for windows. I have a 200gb hdd 7200 rmp's which I try to keep at minimum 130gb and transfer the rest to external hdd. I currently run sony vegas pro 8, dvd architect 5, photoshop cs4 and lightroom 2.3. I am learning premiere pro cs4 and after effects but as of now I can only work with DV video only because HDV lags alot in premiere pro, works ok with vegas. So I am in the market for a new system, it is time to give my six year old pc a rest. I am looking at a mac book pro 2.66ghz core duo with 4gb(upgradable to 8) and 320gb 7200rpms. would this pc be good enought to run premiere cs4(well adobe masters collection for mac in general), i am also able to get final cut studio for 400dls so I am looking foward to learning FCP, but I will also miss vegas pro 8. My other option is a dell desktop xps 435 intel i7 2.66ghz, 1tb raid 0, 8gb ram, the works for blue ray burning. What would you guys recommend? Is a this macbook pro fast enoug and how do these computers compare in regards to speed, performance.

The Mac Book Pro should be powerful enough for some HD editing, though someone else with that particular processor would have to provide you with benchmarks. Of course, the Dell system with a Core i7 would absolutely cream the Mac Book in every test.

But, are you still deciding between a laptop and a desktop? Why are you going Mac if you're working with Sony Vegas? Tell us a little more about what work your system will be doing. Also, browse some of my past posts and you'll find plenty of information about computer hardware. Search the forums too. This topic has been discussed extensively here.

That MacBook Pro should be fine.

Remember as well that you can install Windows in it and run it natively using a bootloader.

BTW, its blu-ray, not blue ray.

best
