Need advice on GH1 & Premiere Pro CS4 on a PC?

I'm new to the GH1 and video editing, and the software that's available to me is Premiere Pro CS4 on a PC. Besides being a noob, most all the advice here is for the Mac and FCP. I'm hoping someone can help out here.

I can open my GH1 1080p/24 files in Premiere without having to use Neoscene or Voltaic. Does this mean Premiere is handling the transcoding/pulldown removal, or is it still best to do the transcoding before going into Premiere? The raw MTS files show up as being 29.97 fps, while the transcoded ones are 23.976.

When starting a new sequence in Premiere, it offers a host of AVCHD presets, including 1080p/24. Should I use this preset with the transcoded files, or choose something different?

Also, is transcoding needed at all for the 720p/60 mode, or is this just an issue for the 1080p/24 mode?

Sorry for the basic questions, but it's a little dizzying to jump into these video issues.

I use PPro CS4 and find it to be a very good solution. Make sure to install the latest 4.1 update, MUCH improved AVCHD support. With my quad core cpu its almost a pleasure to work with!

Somewhere I read that PPro 4.1 does automatically remove pull down but I can not confirm this. It does, at the very least deinterlace the footage.

I just select the 1080 24p preset (or the 720p if I want to do 720 instead,) drag and drop clips to import, drag to timeline. No messing with neoscene and having to transcode files before editing.

It might not be truly "pulldown removed" footage, but it looks good enough to me.

yeah, it's definitely not de-interlacing or removing pulldown in premiere when editing 1080p. you can't remove pulldown with premiere. however editing 720p is an ease. just drop that into a 60p timeline or a 24p one and it's good to go from there. the 4.1 patch is necessary too.
