Need Advice on FCP to Premiere Workflow

I may have a commercial to do soon where I'll be Directing and Dping. I usually edit anything i direct however in this case, I'd like to not take on all of that work and also some of the editing effects are beyond my capability. However i like to colour grade and have final control over the look. Therefore i'd like the editor (who uses FCP, to edit the project and add the effects, motion graphics, ect needed and give me that finished edit for me to grade in colorista in Premiere cs5 which i use. I've never done this... what's the best way to do this and also preserve the quality?

Camera will be 7d.

Tried this many times. The XML doesn't work like it should most of the times. Its much less of a headache to do this:

Since its just a commercial, have them export a 10bit Prores that you can import into Premiere and then slice up the cuts using razor. If there's a dissolve, make sure they convert to a cut and extend the in and out points to cover the dissolve, then just restitch after your grade.

Thanks for the advice. 2 questions to you Richard, what do you mean by "just a commercial"? If it were say a film what would you do different. Also what timeline would I open in preimere? Is there a proress one (I'm on my phone not near my machine so I can't check)

I think he means that a commercial is short enough that it's not too onerous to do what he says…

Oh ok.
Just to be clear I didn't think u meant anything bad by that :). The net can have a way with word. Just meant if it were something else if there was some more effeicient way you would use.

Ullanta is right, I just mean the method I speak of is tough for anything longer than a couple minutes, as you have to reslice every cut.

Cross Os issues mainly, I usually spend hours trying to get the footae and files to transfer, then when I try to import the XML I get error messages. Like i said i think thats mainly a problem trying to get stuff off a Mac and onto a PC andworking properly, I'm sure it works better when staying within Mac.

I'd like to offer a new suggestion.

Turn the tables on the many job listings we've all read calling for FCP experience, and simply require your editor to use Premiere Pro. (Or find another editor who will.)

This solves all issues.
