Need advice on appropriate Avid software to purchase

Hi everyone,

I'm considering purchasing Avid when I leave Film School. I'd like to get work predominantly as an editor, with the "vain" view (like most film school students) of becoming a director later.

Obviously, price is an issue for me. If anything, I'm wanting to use this software for my own use, for my own independant projects, although I certainly wouldn't rule out using it to edit other people's projects too.

I've thought about the Liquid family, but somebody told me at film school that Liquid is going to no longer exist (perhaps this was just a Chinese whisper -- I'm not sure).

In any case, if anyone can advise me on what software is most appropriate, that would be great.

Thanks,
David

If price is an issue go with DVXPress. For a little better performance you could but the MOJO also.

Thanks Isaac. I'm from NZ and am a film school student.

Is it eligible to overseas students?

man, I'd go with FCP.
More bang for the buck, user-wise and now as well established on the post world as any avid product.

Only there's no FCP product at Journey Ed.

Question though for those who have purched from there. Would I be able to upgrade my Avid system to a professtional version once I get out of school and start doing professional stuff? I hope so.
