Need advice, Is the 5d2 (non raw) still an acceptable image today?

So I have a web project coming up that would really benefit from using a full frame sensor. I own a Canon 5d2 (w/ml/non raw), and a set of Samyang Cinema lenses. I know all to well about the moiré issues on the 5d2, which actually isn't a big deal for this shoot as it's a controlled environment. Raw is out of the question as the motion cadence looks choppy and horrible, at least it did a few weeks ago. Ideally I would normally grab the gh2 or g6 and go wide. But it still wouldn't have the full frame look that I have in mind. It's low budget, which means if I were to rent, it would be coming out of my pocket, as I figured my day rate with my bought and paid for camera package. However, It's been a long while since using my canons for paid work.

After shooting mostly with Panasonic cameras, and so use to a super sharp image, I'm not sure what people think about the 5d2 these days for web delivery? A few years back, it seems like everyone was requesting the 5d2, but things have changed, is it still an acceptable image today? Should I shoot a test for the client, or am I overly critical of the softer image compared to the gh2? I can drive myself crazy with this ****. Just looking for opinions and advice from my peers. thanks

There is no "right" answer--it's all down to the individual client needs. I was about to use it for someone but the gig didn't come through (not 'cause of the cam). I would say yes.

I still shoot client videos with an HVX200a...and the 5DII is better than that. 1080p is still in demand.

there are much better options out there by now, but the 5D2 is still as good as it ever was
if that's what you have, then use it! :)

Totally agree with Samuel! There are tons of amazing videos on the web created with a 5D2 or even canon rebels! If they did it...you can do it! And if you cant...its not the cameras fault...

I know it's not ideal to sharpen, but what about slight amount? any recommendations or proven settings?

I sharpened the 5D2 more than the 5D3... I used to use Unsharp Mask 120 - 1 - 1.. Works beautifully.. providing you have no in camera sharpening on.

The question has already been answered, but you have to decide and make up your own mind. If the image is acceptable to you, then trust your own instincts. Its important to take advice from people on the internet but it's also good practice to trust your own judgement.... In all aspects of your work.....

There are literally thousands of beautiful pieces all over Vimeo that show off the prowess of the 5D2.. many demonstrating just how good it can be.. if you dont think thats good enough.. then you have a few decisions to make.

Thanks Scott, that's exactly what I was looking for. Testing your settings tonight. Huge help !! Thanks again

Thanks for all the replies guys, I couldn't agree more with all the comments. If the production sucks no camera is going to save it that I do know:-)
