I'm gonna shoot some footage from and old workshop and it is going to be an electrical welding machine, so i was wonder if the intense light from the welding can damage my DVX100 ccd or something...

What precautions may i take?

PS: some of the shots need to point directly into the welding light.

You need to protect your eyes as well. As far as the camera is concerned, the welding light is very intense, and I have seen operators using very high factors of ND filters, especially if you are doing extreme close-ups. If possible try to get a glass panel as used in a welders helmet to use as a filter - that willgive good protection.

Be VERY VERY careful. I've seen CCD's get blown out just from a photographer pointing and shooting his camera directly at a DVX because of the flash. I'd imagine the light from welding is even more extremely intense.

If you need the shot, protect your eyes and the entire camera by using a welding helmet to shoot through. It would probably give you a more interesting shot anyway. The shot would be as if you yourself were looking through the mask. Best of luck.
