Hey guys I need a nice portable sound bag for a mixpre and tascam dr680 recorder. Nothing fancy just enough to hold both and get the job done. Any suggestions?
Petrol, Portabrace, Kata are 3 popular brands out there (there are others as well)
My own personal fav these days is the Petrol stuff. While not perfect they work better for me than past porta brace bags I used to own.
Just my own opinion. There are plenty of soundmixers out there that love the portabrace bags as well.
All 3 of those brands have decent enough sites to see if you like them or not.
BH photo, Trew, Coffey Sound, TAIaudio, are just a few of the dealers out there that you can get prices from on their sites.
Thanks for the response. My budget is pretty open actually. Price is really not as much of an issue as function. I need it for "walk-n-gun" situations, and something to just get my gear in one bag from A to B.
I have a Porta Brace Audio Organizer that was new in 1997 and it's still running strong. It was originally purchased to hold a Shure FP33 and a portable DAT recorder (Tascam DA-P1). A MixPre is a little overwhelmed in the main compartment (the 302 doesn't sink down as much as the MixPre), but it has plenty of space. Anything you get that is deep enough for the DR680 is going to be too deep for the MixPre, though. That problem is easily solved by putting a small block of foam (or felt-covered wood) under the MixPre, just to get the controls up to the surface.
EDIT: Whatever you get, make sure you have a harness. Especially for things like docs and ENG, running long hours with the weight on a shoulder strap can be a killer.
Does anybody know if the Portabrace MX-24 mini is large enough for the mixer, 2 Sennheiser Evolution receivers, and a small Tascam DR-07 recorder (about the size of an evolution receiver, only taller)... I can't seem to wrap my mind around the different in pocket size between the MX-24 and MX-24 mini...
I have one of the Petrol bags, slightly older but similar to Chads. It is a very good bag....except for the velcro-on clear vinyl cover. I really feel like the bag should have a proper top closure, maybe zipper removeable, and then add the clear rain cover if needed.
