Need a video card compatible with Magic Bullet and Xpress Pro HD

I'm currently using the Avid recommended NVIDIA Quadro FX 1400 card, but I want to use Magic Bullet Looks for some color work, however MB is not compatible with this card.

Red Giant Software recommends the NVIDIA 6600, 7800, or 8800 cards, none of which appear on AVID's certified list. Since MB is designed to work with AVID, what card could be used to keep both programs happy?

Today I bought the 8800, and while it worked nicely with MB, I no longer had playback in AVID, and full-screen playback wasn't even a remote possibility. I'll be returning it and was thinking of trying the 7800... any thoughts?

Right now I'm running Avid Xpress Pro 5.8 with a 7950gt, and able to run MB looks without any issues. 7xxx series cards still support full screen playback in avid, 8xxx does not.

MB Looks does NOT work with my Avid system (nVidia Quadro FX 3450).

You'd think if they're selling a product specifically FOR Avid, then it would work with Avid certified video cards! I'm a bit disappointed.

any new info?

any new info?

Hi

I am in the same situation, currently running xpress 5.7 on a Dell equiped with fx1400 dual xeon 2.something GHz. just bought mb looks, and it is "working"... that is no realtime preview and ultra slow rendering.

So i am in the market for nev graphics card, was so close to get a 8800gtx, but if avid dosent work, whats the point of having a fast mb looks...

has anyone got expirience with non quadro cards and a fully functional avid xpress?

it would be nice if red giant would look in to the specs for avid or at least give recomandations.

any new updates are very welcome

I'm running 5.8 and mb looks with 7950gt no probs. You'd probably be able to use the 8800gtx with avid BUT you will lose full screen preview. If you're using mojo to output to client monitor that won't matter anyway. But any 7xxx series card is still going to be able to support FSP if you use that. 8xxx cards will work but you lose FSP.

monday:
OK - now I got a evga 8800GTX 786 MB RAM nvida forceware 169.21 , and it is running.

BUT, no realtime preview, better performance though. The looksbuilder has much more snappy response, allmost realtime when adjusting parameters

No real changes for avid performance (haven't tested for fullscreen playback, since I have a mojo)

Render times seems unchanged an far too long compared to the stated times in the MBL manual.

Have posted a support ticket at red giant, but haven't heard from them.

I'll be back....
