Hi,

Im looking for a good above 10mp digital camera of the point n shoot variety. I know this is an advanced photography forum but since most of you guys are well experienced, im sure you'll must be having som idea you can share. Im also planning to buy a Canon EOS D-500 for starting out in professional photography. But i need a simple camera that my family members can use easily.

My primary need is for a camera with about 10mp or above and it should be something that doesnt have blurring due to even small hand tremors, as i cant expect my family members to have a very still grip on the cam. I also want to do some simple macro shots to document product box packings that have instructions on them etc as i cant store boxes for the charade of electronic boxes i buy and keep.

Thanks

I shoot Nikon SLRs, but I only buy Canon P&S cameras. I've had quite a few.

Point and shoots range most greatly in features dependent on their price range. Which means that just about anything from $150 to $300 is selling stuff, not a better image. So if you are looking in that price range just get what best meets your needs.

My wife is currently using a SD880. I love it. Great for outside stuff. Decent flash for inside stuff. I just bought my mother-in-law a SD980 for Christmas. I hope to get my hands on it some. :) The best little P&S that they have right now is the S90. Once you get to that price range though you should really consider the G11. It is superb, but bigger and some people don't want that out of a P&S. (The G11 also has a hot shoe to allow the occasional strobist shot. Big plus in my book.)

Most any Canon P&S that I know of now has awesome image stabilization. Actually, the ones I listed above technically have IS in their name. i.e. - SD880 IS & SD980 IS
Also, I don't know of one that doesn't have a macro mode. The Canon macro only works when the lens is at it's widest, but it is fantastic. Great for product shots. Even better on the G11 b/c you can combine that with a strobe for really crisp close up images.

I second Canon P+S' - from 35mm to the SD600 I had to the SD1200 IS...all great point and shoot cameras.

Thanks Guys.

I was looking at the Olympus FE-26. But the sample images i saw on the olympus site itself were lousy. Ive heard even though its 12 megapixels its got a shabby image processing and compression. Second choice was a cannon p&s. Is there any site where you can get to see sample images from almost all latest cameras ? Both Pro & Amateur Series ?

Thanks

Check out the Canon G11. some really handy features for $499.

EDIT: DivotDan is right on point...ah well...one more vote for the G11 haha

The G11 actually has a number of advantages over the T1i, not the least of which is portability and super High flash sync speed thanks to it's electronic shutter. I'd rather have the G11 and a new flash or some triggers over the base model SLR.
